Body x breath x intention = transformation

What is Kundalini Global yoga?

Kundalini Global is a new form of Kundalini Yoga that works with the stress system to foster emotional regulation and the ability to be, and stay, present. It is a non-dogmatic spiritual practice that is informed by up-to-date physiological, psychological, anatomical, and neuroscientific theory and research into the body and mind.

It was founded by Carolyn Cowan, a yoga teacher and teacher trainer who is also a therapist, specialising in trauma, anxiety, addiction, shame, pre-and-postnatal issues and more

In classes, you will begin to familiarise yourself with the role you play in how you experience your life. The breathwork practices and postures we use during classes are all tools to turn to at any moment you are able to recognise you have moved into fear, anxiety, stress, or overwhelm.

  • Monday 18:30-19:30 UK time

    Friday 17:00-18:00 UK time

  • Classes are held online, via Zoom. A link will be sent to you when you register.

  • Kundalini Global is a radical rethinking of many more traditional forms of Kundalini Yoga. Teachers are free to dress as they want to, use music that works for them, and make the practices unique to them.

  • We move more slowly in Kundalini Global classes than you may be used to if you are familiar with other styles of Kundalini yoga. We tend not to use mantra (although individual teachers may) and most teachers begin classes with breathwork.

All classes open with a simple, accessible, extremely powerful, stretch. That we all do this is not about our practice being prescriptive but about recognising how important it is that every single person in a class can start from a place of presence. Once learned, it can be used as a tool any time, any place, when you notice you don’t like how you feel.

We encourage clients to walk toward feeling safe enough to practice with the eyes closed. We usually begin a class with breathwork, before moving to a gentle warm up and then move into a yoga series.

The named yoga series help frame an intention for each class, which the teacher will explain at the opening. A series will usually be formed of between 7-12 individual yoga postures and breaths.

Posture is taught with variations available to suit every body. We encourage the use of props, and we are kind with timings… we do not hold extremely strong postures for prolonged periods of time. Between postures we will take pauses, to rest, reset and integrate.

At the end of the class teachers always leave time for a longer relaxation.

  • Kundalini Global is open-minded and inclusive in its approach to posture, breath, music, mantra and, most importantly, to you. We work to be inclusive in all aspects of how we approach teaching yoga from what we say to how we dress to how we work with posture.

You are welcome to come to class just as you are – variations are offered for everything we do, to suit all bodies, and there is always the invitation to practice from a mat on the floor, a comfortable chair or from bed. Whilst both classes follow this approach, the Friday class will be particularly suitable if you would like a specific focus on a gentle class for rest and recovery.

Classes are not suitable if you are pregnant or less than 3 months postnatal.

The Friday class is for women only.
